The PTA report highlights that unresolved licensing issues could render up to 40 percent of ATMs non-functional. The situation arose out of a dispute between telecom companies and the IT ministry over due payments. Without a renewed license, ATM functionality is at risk, potentially affecting millions of customers.
Mobile and Internet Traffic Concerns
Additionally, the PTA report warned that the conflict could affect 50% of mobile traffic and 10% of internet traffic. Mobile towers may also go offline, further exacerbating communication problems. The licensing issue stems from disagreements between telecom companies and the IT ministry over unpaid dues. The Ministry’s Steering Committee has not yet developed a plan to address these payments.
