K-Electric Bills Set To Rise For Consumers This Month starting from November 2024. The power utility has announced an adjustment of Rs. 2.17 per unit. This will bring the total price to Rs. 4.91 per unit, including the existing Rs. 3.17 per unit charge.
Additionally, KE has introduced a quarterly adjustment of Rs. 1.74 per unit. This quarterly charge will be applied separately from the regular monthly bills. These adjustments are part of KE’s quarterly tariff mechanism, which allows for price changes due to fuel cost variations.
Last month, K-Electric increased prices by Rs. 2.59 per unit for October. The company also submitted a request for an additional increase of 51 paise per unit for August, though this decision is still pending approval.
In December 2024, customers will also see a fuel charge adjustment of Rs. 3.03 per unit for July 2024. These fuel charge adjustments (FCA) happen when global fuel prices fluctuate, impacting electricity generation costs. NEPRA oversees and approves these adjustments. When fuel prices decrease globally, customers can expect a reduced FCA in their bills.
NEPRA has clarified that this adjustment will not affect lifeline consumers, prepaid metering consumers, and electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS).
Formerly known as Karachi Electric Supply Company Limited, K-Electric has grown into a vital part of Karachi’s infrastructure. Since 2009, KE has invested over USD 4.1 billion to expand its generation and distribution capacity, making significant improvements in both areas.
