Nearly 2 Million Affected as Punjab Battles Unprecedented Floods – Marriyum Aurangzeb

Punjab Floods 2025: Punjab’s Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed on Sunday that nearly two million people have been affected by devastating floods across the province, calling the situation “unprecedented” in the history of the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers.

She revealed that 750,000 people have been evacuated, with 300,000 currently staying in relief camps. Rescue teams, aided by drones and thermal surveillance technology for the first time, have managed to rescue 115,000 people using boats and shift over 500,000 livestock to safer areas.

Aurangzeb emphasized that timely decisions by the Chief Minister, including anti-encroachment drives and swift disaster response, had prevented major human losses. She stated firmly that “not a single life has been lost due to negligence.”

To support those affected, medical camps and mobile health clinics have been established, while a dedicated Punjab Floods 2025 media room provides real-time updates to citizens. The provincial government has also announced that damage assessments will be carried out to ensure compensation for affected families.

Highlighting the role of climate change, Aurangzeb said Rs 40 billion has been allocated for future water storage and flood management projects. In Lahore alone, rainfall has exceeded 100 mm, and water levels in the Ravi River remain dangerously high.

Calling the floods a national calamity, she urged collective action:

“This is an extraordinary situation, an unprecedented flood. We must face it together.”
