These changes apply to both e-passports and machine-readable passports (MRPs), and the rates vary depending on the type of passport and processing speed. “The revised fees, therefore, aim to improve the efficiency of the passport system while covering costs for advanced services.”
For e-passports, firstly, a 36-page, 5-year document now costs Rs. 3,000 for normal processing and Rs. 15,000 for urgent requests. Additionally, if you need a 75-page, 10-year e-passport, it will set you back Rs. 15,500 for normal processing and Rs. 27,000 for urgent service. Moreover, there’s also a fast-track option for some passports.
On the other hand, the machine-readable passports (MRPs) have higher fees. For instance, a 36-page, 5-year MRP costs Rs. 4,500 for normal processing, Rs. 7,500 for urgent, and Rs. 13,500 for fast-track service. In addition, larger passports, like the 100-page, 10-year MRP, cost Rs. 13,500 for regular service, Rs. 17,000 for urgent, and Rs. 32,000 for fast-track.
Additionally, fees for lost passports have increased. The first replacement initially costs Rs. 54,000, however, losing your passport three times ultimately results in a hefty fee of Rs. 356,000.
