Local Manufacturing Gains
On a brighter note, local manufacturing is on the rise. Pakistani plants produced 18.95 million mobile handsets from January to July 2024. This figure contrasts sharply with just one million commercially imported units. In July alone, local plants assembled 1.61 million handsets, while only 0.16 million were imported.
Manufacturing Data | Units (Million) |
---|---|
Total Manufactured (Jan-Jul 2024) | 18.95 |
Commercial Imports (July 2024) | 0.16 |
Locally Assembled (July 2024) | 1.61 |
Interestingly, 62% of mobile devices on the Pakistan network are smartphones, while 38% are 2G devices. This indicates a growing preference for advanced technology among consumers.
The decline in mobile phone imports reflects changing market conditions. However, the surge in local manufacturing provides a silver lining. As Pakistan continues to develop its technology sector, consumers may find a broader range of locally produced options in the near future. Stay tuned for more information.
