PTA Warns Against Hackers Using OTPs To Target Social Media Users In Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority PTA Warns Against Hackers Using OTPs To Target Social Media Users. Hackers are increasingly targeting social media users by sending deceptive links and demanding One-Time Passwords (OTPs). These scams have led to a spike in hacking incidents on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.

In its advisory, the PTA emphasized that it will never request personal information, passwords, or OTPs from users via calls, emails, or messages. Therefore, to safeguard themselves, users are strongly advised to avoid clicking on unknown links or sharing sensitive information. Furthermore, taking these precautions is crucial to prevent falling victim to these malicious activities.

Moreover, if you encounter a suspicious number or link, the PTA urges you to block or report it immediately. Additionally, you can do this through your mobile phone operator or by contacting the PTA directly. To make the process easier, the PTA has provided several options for users to register complaints, including their website, the PTA CMS mobile app, or by calling their toll-free number.

In addition to the PTA’s efforts, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is also available to assist. If you experience financial fraud, you should report it to the State Bank of Pakistan. The combined efforts of these agencies aim to curb the increasing incidents of hacking and fraud.

The PTA’s alert comes in response to numerous complaints from social media users about account hacking and financial fraud through fake links and OTPs. By staying vigilant and following the PTA’s guidelines, you can protect yourself from these scams. Remember, your safety online begins with caution and awareness. Stay tuned for more information.
