Punjab Govt Plans High-Speed Rail From Rawalpindi and Lahore

The Punjab Govt Plans High-Speed Rail From Rawalpindi and Lahore in enhancing transportation within the region. Recently, officials submitted a proposal for a high-speed rail project linking Lahore and Rawalpindi to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. This project, estimated to cost around $1.6 billion, aims to revolutionize travel between these two major cities.

Trains on this new line are expected to reach speeds of up to 250 km/h. This will drastically reduce travel time, allowing passengers to journey from Lahore to Rawalpindi in less than two hours. The transport and mass transit departments have highlighted the need for an action plan based on a thorough pre-feasibility study conducted by the railway department. However, securing initial funding remains a critical challenge for this ambitious venture.

In addition to this high-speed rail project, the Punjab government has also recently approved a tram service for Lahore. This tram line will cover 11 kilometers and feature ten stops, with each stop spaced approximately 1 to 1.5 kilometers apart. Inspired by modern tram systems in Finland and China, the project will cost around Rs. 27 billion.

The tram route will connect key areas, including Main Boulevard from Kalma Chowk to Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road. To accommodate this service, the authorities will therefore transform MM Alam Road into a one-way street, which will enhance the area’s aesthetic appeal. Additionally, a dedicated stop at Gaddafi Stadium will cater to sports fans and event-goers. Moreover, ticket prices will be announced closer to the launch date.

In conclusion, these projects demonstrate the Punjab government’s commitment to modernizing transport and improving connectivity across the region. Stay tuned for more information.
