The cabinet of Punjab Increases Jail Time and Fines For Kite Flying Offenses, the possession of illegal arms, and other violations in order to ensure public safety. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired the meeting, whereby new reforms were introduced and critical initiatives were endorsed.

Kite Flying and Illegal Arms Penalties

The updated Kite Flying Ordinance 2001 now imposes jail sentences ranging from two to five years. Moreover, offenders will face fines between Rs2 million and Rs5 million. Additionally, those found guilty of possessing or manufacturing illegal arms could receive three to five years in prison, with fines between Rs500,000 and Rs700,000.

Key Initiatives Endorsed By the Cabinet

The cabinet meeting also brought good news with the approval of several progressive schemes:

  • Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Housing Scheme:
    The scheme will provide loans based on plot ownership, with monthly payments set at Rs14,000 over nine years for loans up to Rs1.5 million.
  • Green Tractor Program:
    Farmers with up to 50 acres of land can receive subsidized tractors. The scheme will distribute 9,500 tractors, each with a Rs1 million subsidy, starting in September 2024.
  • Children’s Heart Surgery Program:
    Aiming to perform 12,000 surgeries, this initiative will involve international pediatric surgeons.

Institutional Reforms and Appointments

Here are the key decisions:

  • Appointment of search committees to find new vice chancellors for several universities.
  • Regularization of contract employees.
  • Approval of Punjab’s first provincial life insurance company.
