Refurbished Chromebooks in Islamabad Schools Under Inspection After Complaints

In a recent development Refurbished Chromebooks in Islamabad schools, many schools in Islamabad have reported problems with the refurbished Chromebooks they received. The devices were meant to support digital education, but numerous complaints have surfaced, claiming that some Chromebooks were faulty — many wouldn’t even turn on.

In order to deal with this, the Ministry of Education has taken immediate action by taking notice. Secretary Education Mr. Muhiuddin Ahmed Wani has formally directed the Director General of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to inspect all refurbished Chromebooks. The move is aimed at ensuring that each device is fully functional before being handed over to students and teachers.

According to the ministry, a total of 12,500 refurbished Chromebooks were purchased through the National Book Foundation at a cost of Rs. 11,900 per unit. 4,000 devices have been delivered so far, and the rest will be distributed soon.

Due to limited funds, the ministry opted for refurbished devices rather than new ones so that they could support more schools. Despite being second-hand, the aim was to ensure that each Chromebook worked properly. However, the complaints have raised valid concerns. The ministry has also decided to collect a certificate of satisfaction from school heads once they receive the Chromebooks. This will help ensure transparency and accountability in the process.

Meanwhile, FDE is already working on a new tender to buy another 10,000 Chromebooks to continue supporting schools with digital learning tools. These inspections and follow-up measures show that the government is serious about addressing the issues and providing quality resources for education — even within a tight budget.
